Absolutely the best headset I’ve ever owned. A review for CS50 owners considering an upgrade.
I’ve owned several Plantronics headsets over the years, and yes, the good ones are all expensive. That being said, they’ve been making great strides in improving comfort and functionality. This unit replaced a CS50 that I used for VOIP applications and plugged directly into a computer. This headset has many other features that the CS50 had, but I wanted to write a review specifically for those considering upgrading from a CS50. I use this particular model instead of Bluetooth or others because the range is exceptional– almost as good as a cordless phone, and in some cases better! Far more than Bluetooth could ever think of with today’s current standards. What makes this unit better than the CS50? A few things:1. Lighter/smaller2. Replaceable tips and ear holders so you can customize the fit for your head. Really helps for those multiple hour calls.3. You can use a USB dongle to plug in to the PC instead of having to plug the dock in via USB like the CS50– better for travel & mobile use.4. The unit will charge via USB dock if you don’t have a power adapter with you– much more mobile than the CS50.5. The ear piece is smaller and fits in the ear with a gel instead of a “one size fits most” on the CS50.6. The ear tip actually SWIVELS forward & backward– maybe the single most innovative part of this unit compared to CS50. No work, it just adjusts to fit you properly!7. Far more mobile-friendly. Comes with a hard shell carrying case so you can take just the USB adapter, the headset, and USB charging cable.8. The audio quality is excellent, and has a little better user feedback than CS50 so you can tell if your mic is open or not.9. Battery is far more easily replaceable, though I’ve never had to replace a battery in the past.10. Also works great with MAC without any additional install of software. OS X current supports it automatically. I primarily use it with Windows 7.I couldn’t be more pleased with this device as an upgrade to the CS50. It sounds good on both ends, and I can also say that it works well with Google Voice, Skype, and other “not corporate” VOIP solutions as well. As we travel, we have business and personal life that doesn’t stop and this device helps connect you to both seamlessly.I know they’re pricey– but if you’re a true professional or demanding of a great headset or talk lots of hours or frequently, you will be very pleased with this device.

    Not Genesys Compatible
I am an operational trainer for my company so needed a headset that was both Teams and Genesys compatible. While this headset does work perfectly with Teams it is not fully compatible with Genesys. It will not emit a ringtone in the Genesys phone system which means that calls just drop in with no warning. This is unacceptable and could not be resolved by our IT department or Poly support. Do not buy this to use with Genesys.

This would be a great headset if the headset itself didn’t break so easily
This would be a great headset if the headset itself didn’t break so easily. I went to adjust the ear piece and it broke right off. Great provider/shipper, but a really bad product.

Great Headset – Wish It Had An Off Button
I bought this headset about three weeks ago and initially thought that something was wrong with it. After sitting overnight the battery was flat the next morning. When it arrived the packaging was a little ratty so I suspected the reseller had sent me a return with a problem. A few days after receiving the headset I talked to a couple of colleagues that have the same model and they reported the same behavior and said that they just take the battery out if they’re not going to leave it in the charging cradle. I tried removing the battery overnight and when I put it in the next day it had close to a full charge on it.After that I decided to read the manual 🙂 I found that it does have a sleep mode you can put it into by holding down one of the buttons on the headset for three seconds. I haven’t tried it yet, but a colleague told me that even in sleep mode it still drains the battery after about two days and that the only way to avoid that is to take the battery out and put it back in when you’re ready to use it again. The other issue with sleep mode is that there’s no indication on the headset what mode it’s in. The only way to tell is to plug in the USB dongle and see if the headset connects (indicated by a green light on the dongle). If it doesn’t then the headset is in sleep mode and you have to hold the button on the headset down for three seconds to bring it to active mode.Taking the battery out is no big deal, so the issue is a little irritating only because it would have been so easy to address in the design of the device by simply including a physical on-off switch. If you’re going to use it at the same desk every day and will leave it in the charging cradle, it’s not an issue at all. If you travel like I do, it’ll be a minor annoyance. All of that said, the performance of the headset is very impressive. I average about four hours per day on MOC calls and conferences and the integration with the device works very well. The sound is excellent and everyone I’ve asked on the other end says the sound quality is great as well. I can make it from my office to the coffee pot (about 75 feet) without dropping the call and for the way I use it, that alone makes it worth the price. I’ve had DECT headsets before but they’ve been bulky and very uncomfortable to wear after a few hours. This one is so light and comfortable that I’ve walked into the bathroom at work without realizing I had it on until I saw myself in the mirror :-)All in all, I’d buy it again even knowing about the battery draining behavior.

    Several years of great audio
The DECT technology is really so much nicer than Bluetooth, it makes me wonder why there aren’t more units like this around. Plantronics has done a lot of good with this. I’ve had two over the last several years. The first one broke at the flexible part of the USB connector, but it still worked, and the second one doesn’t hang onto the inner-ear piece all that well. Trivial things considering the range and quality difference. The battery lasts very well – but I would suggest that all-day-talkers get a backup battery. The batteries are still holding reasonable capacity even after a few years of service, but one does expect to have to replace those after a couple hundred charge cycles. If you are on the skype talking all day, this is the way to go. And my habit is to get up and walk around while talking. This connection follows me where Bluetooth cannot. Another thing is the sound quality you send out. It is very noticeable to others. This produces a nice enough sound to be useful in Camtasia production. We still run that audio through filters and normalizers, but this is a fine microphone and works great for that task. Try this and start a trend – get away from Bluetooth!
