    Good filter…does the job right
    The air does seem better when I put this new filter in.Before, my Alen kept showing it was in the red with my other filter that came with the unit.It was a new filter…but kepts showing RED which is the color to indicate the air is horrible and it will try to fix it up.Well after I put this filter in, the light stopped turning red and stayed a cool blue color for most of the time. The highest I seen the colors go up with this filter is, was the color Orange which means the air is so so…It does take care of smell too. Not sure if it will clean up all the air if you are doing some heaving cooking around the house…but keep it on long enough and it does help neutralize any food smell or other

    Expensive and this particular filter puts out a strong scent the first day of use.
    The Alen pet odor hepa filter definitely has a strong scent when you first install it. I never had this issue with the other types they sell and we’ve been running our Alen units for over 5 years. The smell goes away after running the filter for a day, but be prepared for it if you get this filter. I was reading about this and I think it has to do with the fact that this filter has charcoal/carbon in it and it absorbs basically any scents. I am assuming it absorbed the scents while it was stored away. I hope Alen listens to all these reviews about the odor and addresses this.As long as you don’t use the Pet one, you won’t have issues with odor. We have been ordering the “smoke” one and it is perfectly fine day one. I am sure the Pet one filters odors much better, but the initial odor puts us off from using that particular one.These huge filters are the best and last about 10 months before needing replacement.4/5 stars due to the pet odor specific filter having the off gassing odor for 1 day. Other than that very happy with the other filters they sell.

    Work great during major fires.
    Here in Oregon we had a fire a few years back, I got this filter in response to how much breathing trouble i had from the smoke entering my apartment even though I was far from the fire. When another fire happened this filter kept the smoke in my apartment down considerably and I did not have significant breathing problems.

    My neighbour smokes A LOT, and the smoke seeps into the house. Other replacement brands are not able to handle it—when I smell the air coming out of the machine using cheaper aftermarket filters, it still smells very strongly of cigarettes. With this VOC filter, the only thing that comes out is a fresh breeze.Learn my lesson and buy only the OG replacement filters. Well worth the price.
