    I highly recommend!
I started home cooking for my dogs way back during the mass dog food recall. This book has excellent recipes for both dogs and cats and it also teaches you how to feed your dog or cat a balanced diet. I highly recommend this to all dog and cat owners. It really bothers me how we are taught to feed our animals the same processed crap day in and day out. I see the difference in my dogs coats and their weight since cooking their foods. And the cutest thing is that once I started cooking for them, they sit in the kitchen and watch me cook because they enjoy their meals so much more.

Even Picky Dogs Prefer Home Cooked Food
I have 4 dogs and every one of them loves the meals I make for them! Goodbye to mass produced GMO-laden, factory dog food. This book also includes recipes for cats.Once you get the hang of it it’s so easy. I put all the ingredients in an old crockpot and it cooks itself. Easy easy easy and don’t have to make separate stops for their food anymore!I just buy for them when I’m buying groceries. I like knowing what I’m feeding them. Look up ‘dog food truth’, you’ll never want to give your precious babies anything made by pet food manufacturers again!

    Heaven Sent
Have to give this cookbook five stars. It is well researched and well written. In my opinion, there is nothing else out there for pet owners that even approaches the quality of this work. It stands alone! Now I know why my pooch Boris has had diarrhea, an itchy behind, fidgeted after meals, vomited, slept poorly and was listless. After trying and rejecting brand after brand of so-called ultra-high quality dog foods, and finally settling for the one that bothered Boris the least, I discovered Thixton’s website (via the documentary, Dog Fooled), and bought this book. I already know Boris loves human food. Now he gets to have it everyday. This cookbook makes it all possible, and I don’t have to worry anymore that his kidneys/liver are being damaged by chemicals and diseases meat scraps. Thank you!

Recipes appear to be easy to prepare with obtainable ingredients
Just received the book. Recipes appear to be easy to prepare with obtainable ingredients. My only negative comment is that Pork is NOT included as a source of protein. Shrimp and duck are included but why not a much easier and less expensive obtainable protein source like Pork.

Daily servings, conversion nightmares and changes, lack of consistency
They seem like really good recipes but they are marked out for daily servings. I know there is a equation for figuring it out in bulk, but it doesn’t really give much if you want to do this in bulk. A recipe called to be made in a slow cooker with 4 cups of water and with the conversion I had to make it bulk that’s 28 cups of water, how is that going to work? Another example for the problem with bulk example if you make it in bulk how much you should serve to your animal in a single feeding. I wish they had recipes in bulk as well as daily servings. The conversions for ingredients are all over the place. Like for example some of the recipes that have liver in them change from a measurements in tablespoons to a measurement of ounces. Why?? Couldn’t you just keep it the same measurement through out the book? For the calcium supplements milligram measurement I had to go to a website to see how much was in a teaspoon and it did the conversions for me, I feel a measurement could have been added if you get a powdered for or make a table for that somewhere, if you can do the egg shell measurement why couldn’t you do the calcium?Lastly their ingredient list was inconsistent and vague. Sometimes it just said chicken or beef, ok like what kind of chicken or beef? You were specific in other recipes, be consistent. Sometimes I felt they recipes were too vague about what you need to do.Honestly, I still want to try it out because some of the recipes do look good, but the book leaves me a bit frustrated and annoyed with how they put it together.

I cook these recipes in quantity and my dogs thrive
I have loved using this book to cook for my dogs for about two years. Now, I also use it to cook for my cats! I buy meat, vegetables, and rice at Costco and I make 20-40 of each recipe at a time and freeze it in large tubs. When it’s time to serve the food, I warm it first in a skillet so that it smells good! The cost is not prohibitive because I buy in bulk and supply the labor. I think the variety of ingredients prevent food sensitivities by not over-feeding one protein all the time. I often substitute lamb for beef and the dogs love it. I use a large pressure cooker, crock pot, and food processor and the works goes pretty quickly. My dogs never, ever turn down this food like they do commercial food and there is never a recall concern. Thank you for providing my dogs a healthy diet with sufficient variety that they aren’t bored.

    The Beginner’s manual
This goes through the basics of how to cook a healthy food for your pets. I was panicking when we moved, as our cat’s food was no longer available to them, and other brands weren’t up to snuff (we have an exotic and she cannot have grain at all, it makes her lethargic and unhappy). So this is a god send. I understand the instructions and the whys of what each recipe calls for. I’m not ready to make my own recipes yet, but I feel confident that with more research and a better grasp of the concepts introduced in this book, I will be.

What? GREAT book but I can no longer buy this book for a decent price!
Great book full of healthy nutricoous recipes from 2 reputable authors. This book is for those who want to make sure their dogs/cats are definitely eating right! The pet food kibble industry does NOT do a good job of feeding our pets! These 2 authors do have compassion and concern for keeping our pets healthy. HOWEVER, the first book I ordered was $15 and I ordered from the author’s website. It is no longer available there. I placed an order on Amazon for a 2nd book for a friend @ $15 a week ago and I received notice it’s no longer available for that price after my order had supposedly processed… Now I see I can re-order it on Amazon but it cost double the price @ $28+!!! Yikes it must have gotten popular overnight…

This book is brilliant. I have already made quite a few meals for my dogs. Only made one so far for my car . The all seemed to enjoy the meals. My dogs seem to have more energy and enjoy their meals.

  10. Barbara Louis

These home cooked recipes are created by a vet. One section of the book is for dogs the other for cats. The ingredients are easy to obtain. The recipes are easy to make. Theyare an excellent alternative to a raw food diet for dogs and cats.

  11. Lisa Finch

This book is filled with great information and wonderful recipes! A definite must for the home made planner!

My cats love the food. Their coat has become shinier and they have begun to assert themselves because they are healthier and happier and think they can boss me around.

  13. Amazon Customer

Recipes are easy to source and prepare. Our 5 cats love the food and are satisfied after eating a smaller amount than when eating commercially prepared food.
