Buy the genuine LG part – you’ll be glad you did!
Love this, works perfectly. I cannot stress strongly enough – buy the genuine LG OEM drain pump motor, unless you feel like repairing it twice. I bought an inferior, less expensive motor a year ago, which failed last week. Attaching a picture of what I found when disassembled. I’ve never seen anything like it. Appears the motor shaft cracked, so it could no longer turn the paddle wheel. Put a new LG OEM drain pump in and works like new.

    It works!
Using this and a YouTube video, my husband and I repaired our own washer. The hardest part was taking everything apart and putting it back together. This guy fit right in and works like a charm.

Sounds just like a genuine LG pump and comes in LG box. BUY SPRING EXPANDERS!
3/4/2024: It’s too early to know if this pump was worth the extra $20 over other brands. Time will tell. If it has any problems, I’ll update this. But for now, nothing to complain about. It takes 7-10 years to know if it is a good pump. If it doesn’t last at least 7 years, then I would say it’s not a good pump. If it lasts 10-12 years, I would say it’s a great pump.It comes in a genuine LG box for about $45, which I assume it is exactly what LG puts in their machines. I had no problems installing it. It’s hard to think of anyways it could have been easier or harder to install. It definitely sounds just like a new machine again! I figured since I am saving a bunch of $ by doing the lob myself for the 1st time on any machine, it might be worth the extra $20 to guarantee it fits and sounds like I expect it to sound. However, maybe I should have tried a highly rated 3rd party pump since it is probably the #1 problem most people have to fix on LG machines. The previous one lasted about 6 years, which isn’t very long. However, I have a high-end washer/dryer combo machine (Model# WM3997HWA) that eats up drain pumps when using the dry cycle a lot. The original pump already sounded suspect when I bought it after being used a lot to dry after 2 years. The original pump lasted another 4 years with almost NO use of the dryer function. I do not plan to use the dryer function more than about 1/mo in the future because I have a good dryer. If you’re doing the job yourself, use the “top-down” approach and DON’T try to do it using the access hole in the bottom of the machine like many “pros” are showing on Youtube these days. You can’t see what you are doing and there are bolts, screws, several water tubes, and wires you can’t see or access from underneath. The “top down” approach looks like it is much harder, but it is actually faster than you would think, and faster than doing it from the bottom unless you do it all the time. And you don’t need another person to help move this extremely heavy machine using the top-down method. I did the entire job myself and was able to do almost all of it with tools from Dollar Tree using the top-down approach. If you want to save yourself a WORLD OF PAIN, spend $14 on Amazon to get a pair of “spring expanders” for an LG front loader (see pics). The spring that holds the rubber drum boot to the front of the machine is extremely difficult to get off and almost impossible to get back on without spring expanders. With them, what would take 10 minutes and lots of frustration just to get off, takes about 30 seconds with spring expanders. And it only takes about 60 seconds, instead of hours, to get it back on with spring expanders. If you get those, you can replace the pump in a day. Also, don’t forget there is a good probability you will have to get that rubber boot off and on more than once if it turns out you have a leak, the power isn’t working properly, or many other reasons you can’t think of. Since it is by far the hardest part of the job without spring expanders, you want to make it the easiest part for $14.

    Accurate description
Good to see this was a true original LG part

Same manufacturer as another but $10 more
The box is stamped Genuine LG part, but the motor is labelled ASKOLL, which is available through another vendor at a lesser cost. Now that I know, I’ll go a different route next time. The longevity of these pumps are based on the dirt load of the clothes washed. If you are white collar and never play in dirt, it will last 15 years plus…if you are blue collar & work on motor vehicles or outside in construction, they last about 3-5 years. The dirt removed during the wash cycle passes through the pump and wears down the ceramic seal & bushing and leaks into the magnetic chamber. These work just like an aquarium power filter or outdoor water feature pump. Dirt grinds down the bearing & the pump shaft causing vibration & eventual impeller failure. I’ve replaced 3 pumps so far (my LG2233HW was manufactured in 2007) and the first failed because a length of bathroom rug yarn made it past the strainer and wrapped itself around the impeller causing vibration which led to bearing failure & the impeller would free-spin on the shaft. The second was from a broken hair bobby that did the same thing. The third run was 7 years and the bearing, shaft & impeller were all wore out. Watch out for string, yarn, shoe laces, or anything else that can pass through a 1/8″ hole in the tub, pass through the strainer & wrap around the impeller. Each time I disassembled the pump, the internal magnet chamber was full of fine, stinky grit! The same stinky stuff was all over the back of the spider when I had to change out the tub bearings. We switched back to Tide Free & Clear HE powder and the stinky gunk went away. We started gardening heavily about 5 years ago & have more dirt on our clothes. I attribute this last pump failure to the increase in soil load.We use softened water that is also filtered prior to the clothes washer & dishwasher to increase the longevity of the water pumps in both machines. Our Bosch dishwasher is 12 years old (no maintenance) and our LG washer is 16 years old. Both run like new.I recommend replacing the friction shock absorbers everytime you replace the pump, or about every 3-5 years if you have a large family and run a load daily. It will vibrate a lot less! The front gasket spring lasted 10yrs before requiring replacement.YMMV.
