Excellent Information for healthy dogs
We’ve been researching healthy foods & snacks for our 7 dogs since I’ve had 2 get heart failure due to not getting grains in their food. I thought grain-free was the way to go. NO!! Dogs hearts need grains! Now my blue heeler has a mass growing in her sinuses & I’m doing some holistic things along with the NSAID the vet prescribed. This book gives clear, concise information about recipes as well as what the food does. what dogs it’s best for as well as weight. I really like it!

Worth Buying
Great Book. Not a lot of fluff and pretense that I found in other books. Just straight forward and informative

Helpful book on dog health
*Note that all recipes are for medium (40-50 lb) dogs except for the section on puppiesVery interesting and informative book filled with recipes for off-grid living, but can also be used in normal circumstances. It includes ways to prepare sustenance for your dog while camping or during certain natural disasters–plus checklists at the end. Each ingredient has an explanation tied to why it’s used and how it benefits canines. There’s also a section of ingredients for holistic health (bug deterrent, etc) along with what to do in case of certain health emergencies.Love the pics and format of the book – highly recommend!

Good book for feeding your pup in emergency situations
I really appreciated the clear reminder in the preface that these recipes are not meant to replace vet-approved feeding guidelines or long-term nutrition—this book is focused on emergency situations or temporary solutions when regular dog food isn’t accessible. That makes the advice feel responsible and credible. The recipes are simple, use common ingredients, and include helpful substitutions depending on what you have available. There’s also a good section on foods to avoid, which is reassuring when you’re trying to improvise meals for a pet.For non-emergency situations – this book provides some great recipes for snacks/treats for your pup!

Very Thorough
I’ll start by saying that though this is a “survivalist” book, I simply wanted to check it out to have some recipes for homemade options for my senior dog who is increasingly picky about what she will and will not eat, and as her appetite has decreased, things with a longer shelf life are appreciated and this seemed like it would be a good fit for our needs. The information and recipes included can be useful for various scenarios beyond “survival” – though be aware since that’s the goal of the book, it is accordingly built around survivalist supplies and techniques, and may not be be for everyone if you’re really just looking to cook fresh meals for your dog.The recipes are simple and straight forward. I appreciate the guides included on different long term and shorter term storage options. Each recipe includes a related “survival note”. There are recipes that are best suited to various needs that different dogs have, from growing puppies to mellow seniors and everything in-between.This book isn’t going to be for you if you’re not interested in long term food preservation – dehydrating, canning, vacuum sealing etc. A lot of people already do these things for their own food so if you’re already doing that, this is a great resource to do the same for your dog and I think that’s an aspect of meal prep and food preservation a lot of us don’t even think about. If you’re preparing for off-grid this is definitely for you. This would be useful for those who travel and go camping with their dogs a lot, as well.

A more effective way to rebuild your dog’s immune system.
This cookbook contains many recipes that help support and maintain your dog’s immune system, gut health, and skin conditions without spending so much money at the vet. The vegetable broth recipe really helped with my dog’s overgrown yeast condition.

Don’t have room for kibble when evacuating
Having lived in Michigan for the past couple decades and recently moved to Indiana, I am familiar with being prepared (for blizzards and tornadoes). But I’ve never really prepared for my pets to be off-grid, which is getting to be more common of a necessity (power outages, wildfire evacuations). This book is great at providing easy recipes for storage, providing the tips for duration of storage. There are notes about how the recipes are helpful for your dog in crisis, if they are dehydrated or need quick energy or calming. All of the recipes are measured for medium-sized dogs with a few designated for puppies. The only complaint I have is that there are no baking directions when that is an option.I will be definitely looking into the solar oven! And I’m hoping the author comes out with editions for my cats, iguana, and chinchilla!
