Testament to veganism for dogs; what people are saying around the world.

Remember that conventional pet food is pretty much junk food for your animals. It’s full of animal by-products (intestines, bones, brains, etc.), preservatives, chemicals, and fillers. Personally, I can’t justify killing one animal to save or feed another. If you feed meat to your dogs, that’s what we are doing…deciding that one life is more worthy than the other – Alicia Silverstone, Actress and Vegan Author.

A properly formulated vegan diet may be more healthy than many of the most popular and common commercial diets available – James O’Hare, Canine Psychologist

Dogs can be healthy and in fact, thrive on a vegetarian or vegan diet – Dr. Armaiti May, D.V.M., C.V.A.

I fed dogs in my care vegan because `in my opinion it is not the prerogative of humans to decide which animals live and which die for dog food. I evolved a vegan dog food to circumvent this and to provide proper balanced nutrition for dogs, of premium quality to build and maintain health. Commercial non vegan food can shorten animal lives, be it the consumer, animal or obviously the consumed. Vegan dog food is better for dogs, the planet and carers; it’s a win/win situation and a no brainer – Anne Heritage, author of ‘Bramble; the dog that wanted to live forever’.

There is little doubt that a carefully balanced diet that does not contain meat can meet the nutritional requirements of the dog – Animal Science, School of Environmental and Rural Science, University of New England.

Studies and numerous case reports have shown that nutritionally sound vegetarian companion animal diets appear to be associated with the following health benefits: increased overall health and vitality, decreased incidences of cancer, infections, ectoparasites (fleas, ticks, lice and mites), improved coat condition, arthritis regression and diabetes regression – Harbingers of a New Age

My 36 Years of Experience Proves that DOGS CAN EAT VEGAN! The rescued dogs I’ve shared life with have all made remarkable transformations eating a 100% vegan diet, both in physical health and in temperament. For the committed vegan, it’s the way to ensure your dog’s health without intentionally harming other animals to do so – Butterflies Katz, Author of The Vegan Truth

Everything you feed your dog either contributes to disease or fights it. The cleaner the diet, the less your dog’s body needs to process it – Heather Coster

    Great little book!
I am really liking this book. It has nice recipes and lots of nutritional info. I have been looking for a book like this for awhile. I was already making food and treats for my dogs, but sometimes want to switch up ingredients and this book has all the info I need to see what foods are appropriate and more importantly, helpful. I also learned to add some raw food to their diet, something I hadn’t really been doing before.

    Very Highly Recommended!
recieved this book and have looked through the recipes a little and skimmed through some of the other nutrtional info.I’m a long term (40 + years) student of vegetarian nutrition, and it is obvious the author of this book both knows what they are talking about nutritionally and also cares deeply about the health and welfare of our canine friends.will update this review later when I have tried out some of the recipes on our very wonderful 14 year old Great Pyrenees 140 lb. puppy.very highly recommended!

    Four Stars
    Very helpful book..

    Solved my Dog’s Gastrointestinal Issues
I haven’t used this book extensively because my dog is such a picky eater and will not eat vegetables but one of the basic recipes is for seitan sausages and this little picky eater loves them! The book was worth purchasing for that recipe alone. I can’t find good vegetarian or vegan fresh food for dogs around me so this is perfect. Thank you for putting together a vegan book for dogs that my dog and I both enjoy!

    Wonderful information
I am especially grateful to Heather for the list of toxic foods. Kale is not toxic to dogs. I love Kale because I always feel like super woman after eating kale. I can’t wait to try all the recipes. My rescue dogs have skin allergies that I hope will go away totally with a vegan diet.

    Great Recipes, Horrible Grammar
I applaud Heather Coster for putting together a good source of information to promote a nutrient dense diet for our puppy friends. It has easy to follow recipes that my dogs seem to really enjoy. I look forward to reading more nutritional books like this for both my health, and my dogs’.I do need to address the rampant amount of grammatical mistakes in this book though. Can someone please teach this woman to use a comma correctly? Whoever the publisher was for this book should take a hard look at who their editor is/was, because I literally had to pick up a pencil two pages in just to start marking up the mistakes. Also get her a thesaurus so she doesn’t have to use the word ‘whilst’ 500 times. At any rate I recommend reading this book if you’re a first timer to plant based nutrition for pets. And Heather, if you read this, I will edit your next book for you for free!

Old Dog Learns New Tricks for Health
Loved this book! My dog has hip displaysia and arthritis. He’s 16 years old. His hind legs gave out and I found him in a snow bank. I thought I was going to have to put him down. A friend suggested a vegan diet. I started my dog on a vegan diet, following the recommendations in this book. With Vets+Best aches & pains formula and a diet rich in proteins and grains, he’s going outside, able to go up and down the stairs and his appetite has returned. I LOVE this book! Thank You!

I can get creative with leftovers and best of all
I have adjusted to these recipes enough that it is no longer a chore to make them. My pantry is stocked and it’s easier each time. I can get creative with leftovers and best of all, my dogs love everything and do not have digestive issues from the variety. The vet is very happy with their blood work and health, and so are they. xx

  9. Rutger

Me parece haber leído que tenía información nutrimental para elegir que darle al perro, pero tiene recetas burdas y comunes

  10. Elena

It is very well explained, very clear, it has a lot of information, and very useful!! I’m starting to give homemade vegan food to my dogs and It’s very comforting to have all this information!

  11. Christine Redington

This is an essential book for vegans and dog owners wanting to provide a varied and healthy diet for their dogs. Heather Coster puts her case for a vegan diet with passion and clarity. She backs this up with a great range of information on supplements, ingredients and nutritional values. The comprehensive recipe section is clear and easy to follow and should encourage anyone to have a go. Our dog is certainly very enthusiastic about the nutritional treats.
