Northmate Catch Feeder For Cats- Size Mini

$26.90

Catch is a revolutionary way to turn a cat’s mealtime into a challenging game. Many cats lack mental stimulation, which can lead to boredom and destructive behavior. Catch prolongs eating time significantly, and this results in a happier, healthier cat that can enjoy its daily mealtimes. The simple design allows for the owner to simple scatter the desired amount of wet or dry food across the feeder. The cat can then use its paws to push or grab the food from between the smoothly rounded spikes to eat.

    Cat approved!!
I have two cats – they both came to me from my current roommate. Both of them were puking regularly either from grooming (one of them is long haired so I took to brushing and de-shedding him too to help) or from eating too fast (which the other does… he’ll gulp dry food without chewing)In comes this tool. The cat that eats too fast immediately understood what was going on and was all for it. He even purred while figuring it out the first time! The other cat, the long haired one, isn’t as food motivated but I’m watching him use the bowl right now! This slows down their eating considerably and I have super high hopes. This kind of bowl is seemingly making them eat less too since they’re savoring the food some more. The cats are able to pull this thing around with their paws so I may look into stabilizing it. For anyone who is worried about their pets poking out their eyes or if it’s too hard to get food out, let me alleviate some concerns:1. The cat that eats too fast is a polydactyl cat. He’s got huge oven mitts for paws! He was still able to use this easily.2. Even though I worry about my cats’ safety, I’m not worried about them using this dish. The “spikes” are rounded at the tip and I don’t see them poking their eyes out or hurting themselves with this.As a bonus, I know some cats care about using bowls because of their whiskers. It forces them to eat on a flat surface after “catching” their food so they should have no qualms about eating. 😊I’m really happy with this out of the box and glad these guys can work for their food (and have the polydactyl boy lose some weight too!!)

Put That Energy to Good Use!
This is a very good puzzle feeder for most cats. My boy got too good at it and I needed to get him a more challenging one (the intellikat bowl), but it works really well for my friends’ cats. The “hunting” stimulates and slows them down, and definitely keeps them from overeating from boredom as much. If your cat is moving it around too much, put it on a silicone mat or connect those adhesive Velcro strips to the bottom of the bowl and where you want it to stay.Warning: Stepping on this is like stepping on a Lego tower – and it will bring tears to your eyes and words to your lips.

A good item for the clever kitty, but it may be hit or miss
I got this for my 3 month old kitten, as he is VERY smart and VERY active. I knew I couldn’t enforce him eating all his kibble out of it if he didn’t go for it, since he’s just a baby and needs to eat as much as he wants to grow. So this review is written from a slightly different perspective than most who are using it either to slow down cats who scarf their food, or encourage overweight cats to be more active in their food acquisition. At first he didn’t know what to do with it. Having smaller paws, I knew it should be relatively easy for him to get in the crevices, compared to adult cats. He just stared at it. I tried to show him what to do….still nothing. I gave up and put it away for a few weeks. At the same time, my husband had created a makeshift game for him to get treats, out of 2 IKEA “Marius” stools. The stools have roughly one inch diameter holes in the top, and he would stack the two on top of one another, creating a space between the two stools where he would place the treats. Kitty has to reach into either the holes or between the edges of the stools to smack the treats out. (Hang in there with me, I’m going somewhere relevant with this!) So after kitty mastered that game, we needed to make it harder for him. Hubby had the brilliant idea to put this feeder below the stool, so that sometimes when he would smack the treat out, it would fall into the feeder, creating a second level of game to get the treats. At this point kitty had still never used the feeder successfully so I wasn’t very hopeful. However he immediately reached right in and started working on getting that treat! Perhaps something about the context of the game made him realize what he needed to do, or made him *willing* to do it. I still don’t force him to get all his kibble from it, but he now uses it successfully. Moral of the story is that you may need to give your cat several chances and several contexts to understand the feeder. If you start them young, I’d say all the better. I can imagine my old adult cat would never have bothered with it.

Just the change in Cattitude was worth it!
My cat has been a smidge over-weight for some time now and has certainly been wolfing down her cat food since she was a kitten. Worse: she learned some very pesky behaviors around begging for food immediately after she finished what was in her bowl. This bowl took care of all of that! The first two days she was not pleased with her new feeding arrangements. By the end of the week she was getting pretty adept at fishing her dry cat food out of the bowl with her paws. At the end of the second week I could tell she actually began enjoying “the hunt,” skillfully scooping her food into her paws instead of knocking it first on the floor. She has steadily lost weight, she no longer pukes up her food after eating too fast, still seems to be enjoying it, AND IS NO LONGER A PEST AROUND MEAL TIME! The change in attitude around feedings was a pleasant surprise. I have recommended this to all of the pet owners in my life!
