    highly recommended
It’s a great book, excellent info, easy to understand and follow, understanding that dogs have been with us for thousands of years and we have shared our food with them all those years (dry food has only been 70 years in the market, and it cannot be considered as food!) This book, through common sense, guides you to an easy, healthier diet and a happier dog/cat that eats real food. I am vet that recommends homemade diets, and this book I recommend to all my clients

    Excellent, easy, common sense approach
While I don’t intend on going fully vegan for my dog, it’s nice to be able to supplement my dog’s raw diet with plant based proteins, fruits, veggies, and complex carbs to help keep the meat costs down (and, hey, if I forget to thaw his raw meat one day, I know it’s safe to simply give him plant proteins with his fruits and veggies). Jan is super helpful with any questions, and I love how much easier it is to feed my dog now. I also find that I’m eating more fruits, vegetables, and plant proteins too, since we have so many more available in the house now. I’ve never been a fan of stringent diet rules for myself or my dog, so this is a refreshing change. I’m also super surprised at how much my dog loves his plants and plant-based foods. I’m using little bits of tofu or green beans as training treats now, since he needs to lose a couple pounds. Feed fresh. Feed a variety. Stress less. 😀

    Game changer
When I bought this book, I was already convinced of the benefits of eating fresh whole foods for myself and my dogs. Since changing my own diet, I have begun to loose weight, lowered my bad cholesterol, and blood pressure. Once I read the book, I was even more convinced that it was the right thing to do for my dogs. However, I put off implementing it because of my belief that it was going to be inconvenient and time consuming. My two dogs, Brooklyn and Brixton are 13 years old lab pit mixes. Brooklyn had to have a tumor removed (November 6th). The blood work at the time of her surgery, she had high liver enzymes (ALT 158). She was tested again 30 days later (December 4th). Her ALT was reduced a bit (148) but her creatinine and blood urea nitrogen had increased (1.7 and 26 respectively). The vet wanted her on medication and a renal diet.I choose to immediately start the Fresh and Flexible Meal Plan for both with the addition of dandelion and SamE for Brooklyn. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t as time consuming as I had expected. I batch cook grains for them and myself. I rotate between plant based proteins and cooked chicken. They love vegetables already, but they now love getting a wider variety of vegetables. They love their new meals. Brooklyn who can be a bit picky, is now licking her bowl clean which was not previously the case. After the first week, their coats were softer and they smelled better. The poop and farts even smelled less offensive. As bully breeds, then can be gassy. The amount of gassiness decreased.During the first 30 days on the meal plan, they began to move better. They walk farther on our walks, and they jump higher including being able to jump up on the couch without the use of their little stairs. Additionally, they have lost weight and the size of a lipoma on Brixton’s chest appears to have decreased. It’s not as pronounced and feels smaller when cupped in my hand.Brooklyn’s blood was retested (January 4th). Her Alt continued to decrease (145), the creatinine decreased (1.5), and the BUN decreased (1.2). She still needs to continue to reduce her ALT and creatinine, but I’m extremely excited in the direction we are headed. As per her vet’s recommendation, she will be tested again in 6 months.Having two senior dogs and having lost another senior dog (Gracie, age 18) earlier in the year. I am so grateful for the change in the health of my dogs. I know it won’t change the fact that they are getting older and their lives are shorter than our own, but I know these last few years will be better quality years than if I had kept them on kibble. I highly recommend the Fresh and Flexible Meal Plan and can’t say enough good things about it (as documented in my lengthy and wordy review). If nothing else, I would encourage anyone to try it first 30 days and you’ll see it not time consuming or difficult, and it will enhance the quality of life for your canine loved ones.

This is such a great and informative and easy to read book. I highly recommend it to everyone. It gave me the confidence to stop adding kibble to my dog’s diet and it made it much easier to make his food every day. It is a really awesome and very important book.
